    This system contains two worlds which have fairly sizable populations, Linda (IV) and Santiago (VI). It is unusual that these two worlds are unrelated and mutually hostile. Santiago was settled during the Long Night and lost space travel early. Linda, a much less habitable world, was settled only recently to exploit rich mineral deposits.

Remarks: 
    Linda  was explored by Caledonian scouts after the Long Night ended and rich mineral deposits were discovered.  Arbuthnot Minerals and Resources, Ltd. (ARM) was given a patent by the Prince of Caledon to settle and exploit Linda. Money was raised and a mining colony was established along the shore of the northern ocean. This colony was quite successful and has continued to attract colonists, even while remaining under the corporate ownership and control of ARM.
    The Starport on Linda is located next to, Mindal (48,000),  the largest city on the tropical border of the north polar sea. All imports and exports entering or leaving Linda go through this starport. There are many ore carriers coming through Linda, but few passenger ships and only an occasional free trader or merchant ship.
    The mineral deposits on Linda consist of veins of valuable metals that can be mined by conventional means. There are also as large quantities of mineral rich nodules formed in ancient seas and deposited on the sea beds. As the seas retreated and the deserts spread over them the nodules were covered by drifting sands. Occasionally, the sand storms that sweep over Linda's deserts uncover these rich deposits, so that they may be collected by large ore crawlers that prowl the deserts.
    ARM does almost no mining itself. Instead, it leases tracks of the deep desert  to other corporations to explore and exploit.  Regional corporations like Dakaar Minerals and Caledon Mining and Minerals, as well as mega-corporations like  Sternmetal Horizons and Ling Standard have taken large leases of land. Small companies, some very small, have taken much smaller leases. 

VI Santiago:  Mean orbital radius:  403.92  Mkm (2.7 AU)Period:  1242.8 days. Two satellites. Diameter: 8859 km.  Density:  0.99.  Mass:  0.242.  Mean Surface Gravity:  0.62 G.   Rotational Period:  27 hr 8 min. Axial Inclination:  25'.  Surface Atmospheric Pressure:  1.3 atm.  Composition:  standard oxygen-nitrogen mix tainted with industrial by products. Filter Masks recommended to breath atmosphere.  Hydrographic Percentage:  56%,  composition is liquid water.  Mean Surface Temperature:  10 C.
Remarks: 
    Santiago was settled during the Long Night by a Reaver band that quickly lost access to space, and fell several tech levels to very primitive state.  Contact by Caledonian scouts and merchants have helped them emerge from their near-barbarism. Santiago has bought and built a few space ships, but lacking exploitable lanthanum on their planet, can not build or repair starships.
    Even though their claim to Linda has been formally rejected by the Caledonian crown, and forcibly rejected by ARM, Santiago has continued to try to acquire lanthanum from Linda. ARM refuses to lease mining tracks to the Santiagan government or corporations, and exerts strong pressure on merchant companies to not sell lanthanum to Santiago. In an effort to gain the rare metal, secret expeditions from Santiago have been launched with minimal success. A recent expedition was discovered by ARM security resulting in the lose of the Santiagan space ship and 14 lives. Hostilities have escalated to just short of open warfare between Santiago and ARM.

Rest of System:  There are two planetoid belts in the Linda system in orbits, 5 and 7. Rumors persist that there are large mineral deposits in the belts, but little or no exploration has been done. Whether this is because ARM is protecting its interests on Linda, or because Santiago hasn't had the technology is unclear.
    There are no other interesting bodies in the system.

Planetary System: Elsol, Four major bodies. Two inhabited worlds (Linda 4 and Santiago 6). No gas giants. Two planetoid belts.
